He loves violence and everything that comes with it. Fights, wars, death, pain; he enjoys it all. Due to his unwarranted love for violence, Ares is generally dislike by all of the Olympians. Although some of his traits that could be viewed as positive in the fact that he is honest and direct. He also prefers hand to hand combat; fighting up close with someone rather than from a distance. He is also filled with an insatiable rage. That coupled with his bloodlust ensures that he is ready and more than willing to resort to violence at the drop of a dime. It doesn't help that he's extremely impulsive and tends to allow his emotions / passion to rule over logic. If he wants something or if he is angered - he acts right away, which has ended badly for him in the past. His sister Athena, who prefers to plan out her attacks, has bested him multiple times in battle due to his impulsive personality, and predictable method of kill first, ask questions later. Her victories over him in the past have resulted in Ares harboring a deep rooted resentment for his sister, though there are still the odd times whenever the two agree on something. Loyalty is a big thing for Ares. This, however, only extends to those that he cares about. A list that is quite short. Apart from those people, Ares has been known to be fickle, especially whenever it comes to choosing sides in wars. This is mostly because Ares simply enjoys the chaos and conflict that comes with it. He is more than willing to play both sides if it means achieving an end goal of his. The god of war isn't above siding with the enemy for the sake of pissing off someone who has offended him, either. An example of this could be the Trojan War. Ares didn't hesitate to stand against the Greeks just for the simple fact that it was asked of him by Aphrodite. Growing up, Ares was not close with either of his parents, and like his mother Hera, he is known to be quite vindictive. So whenever Zeus showed favor to his bastard son Heracles (or Hercules), Ares grew jealous, seeing him as unworthy. Just the same as his resentment for Athena grew whenever Zeus showed that he preferred her over Ares as well. Needless to say - he has daddy issues. For most of his life he has wanted Zeus' favor. Having never gotten it in the way that he wanted, Ares has become bitter towards his father. His mother was well. Regardless of the fact that he loves violence, Ares has been known to be protective whenever it comes to his children. Like his own parents, Ares has never been the best as showing affection towards his offspring, preferring to simply show that he cares by ensuring that they aren't weak and are capable of destroying their enemies. the History father • Zeus, 2,700+ years, King of the gods / Lord of the Sky mother • Hera, 2,700+ years, Queen of the gods / Goddess of Marriage siblings • Hephaestus, Artemis, Apollo, Athena, Dionysus, Hermes, Hebe, Enyo..and many more important people • Clarisse La Rue (Daughter), Aphrodite (Ex-Girlfriend), Percy Jackson (Possible Enemy or Ally / Wanted by Deities), Laurel Elswood (Future Romantic Interest) hometown • Greece overall history • Ares is the son of Zeus and Hera. He was never close to either of his parents, and this became obvious whenever they failed to realize that he had been abducted whenever he was a child by the giant Aloadai twins. He was held captive for so long that he nearly lost his mind, and was only freed whenever the stepmother of the twins told Hermes, and he came to take Ares home to Olympus. It was only after this that Hera decided it would be best for Ares to live somewhere else, and so she sent him to stay with Priapus, who raised him and trained him in many things. Surprisingly enough, this also included the art of dancing. Later on, he was trained in martial arts and was taught to fight. Ares was often criticized by the other gods for reacting to situations emotionally rather than being rational. Whenever he entered adulthood, he would then go on to be shamed multiple times by his sister Athena due to his impulsiveness. He lost battles to her because Athena is cold and calculating in her attacks, while Ares was all passion, and relied on instincts rather than wits. Whenever the Romans began to pray to the god of War, he gained a new name, and personality to match. Quite the opposite of Ares, his Roman persona, known as Mars, was more popular and he was prayed to often, especially by soldiers or warriors that were in the heat of battle. Whenever Ares showed favor to someone, and gave them his blessing, they would become invincible in battle - at least for a little while. The god of war can also be incredibly fickle at times when it came to battle, and has been known to switch his favor if he felt like one side was going to lose. Being deceptive, or even indirect, could not be listed among his shortcomings. Unlike the other Greek gods, Ares did not rely on trickery, abduction, or rape to establish his love affairs. Ares is often noted for his long love affair with Aphrodite. She married his brother, Hephaestus, but didn't love him, and instead she and Ares began to sleep together. They took on other lovers throughout the centuries, but it is said that Aphrodite is extremely important to Ares, and that he often became jealous of her other lovers, and has been known to even go so far as to kill them in his rage. Some of his children with Aphrodite include Eros, Phobos and Deimos. Another goddess that he is often associated with is Enyo. She is a minor goddess of war and is usually seen as Ares' companion while riding into battle. Enyo serves as one of he few goddesses that genuinely understands Ares. Because of this, the two have a close relationship. ______________________ MODERN ERA Ares would go on to sire many children with mortals. Notably one that he has now is Clarisse La Rue, who is enrolled at Camp Half-Blood. There are others in that cabin as well. After Luke initially stole Zeus' Master Bolt and the Helm of Darkness, he was caught by Ares. However, rather than turning him over, Ares let him go. At the time he was being controlled by Kronos and ended up meeting Percy Jackson and his companions, Annabeth and Grover and supposedly 'aiding them', when in reality he was setting them up. Proving that while under the influence of the Titan, he is indeed a deceptive individual though it is not generally his nature. Kronos had led him to enact a plan. If Hades killed Percy, Posedion would declare War for the death of his son, Zeus would declare War upon Hades as well for the theft of the Bolt, and Hades would in turn declare War on his brothers, thinking that they stole his Helm of Darkness. That plan failed, however, and Percy Jackson confronted Ares on a beach later on. It was at this point that Ares admitted to himself that he was being controlled by Kronos, while still vehemently denying this in the fact of Percy Jackson. The two dueled, and Percy got the best of him by wounding his ankle. In retaliation as Kronos prevented Ares from killing Percy, he instead cursed the demigod so that whenever he needed his weapon most - it would fail him. Later on, he is seen at various times. Appearing to his children, mostly Clarisse during her quest, but also numerous times with Percy Jackson. None of which are positive. However, after losing the War, Ares and the other gods were forced to flee Olympus. Now they are recuperating. Ares is prepared to fight to the end, even now, patience is not a virtue of his. Over a year has passed and still there has been no progress made towards the War that would see the Olympians rise once more if Ares had his way, as well as the destruction and vengeance against the Titans. Ares has been searching for Percy Jackson, who is missing. Months passed with no sign of Percy. He did, however, discover a different surprise. Another child of Poseidon. A young woman who shares the same blood as Percy Jackson. Knowing that Laurel may be useful, Ares has been keeping an eye on the woman, who seemingly has no idea of who or what she is. Impatient and vengeful, Ares intends to do whatever is in his power to destroy the Titans and find Percy Jackson. Not necessarily in that order. the Sample Ares had been sitting in the booth for what was probably less than twenty minutes, but felt like ages. He hated small spaces. Always had...ever since his childhood, and this booth wasn't made for men his size. One arm was slung carelessly across the top of the seat, legs sprawled underneath the table as much as the space would permit. It wasn't too bothersome, but the slight feeling of confinement did nothing to improve his mood. A glance away from his companion had his eyes scouring over an all too familiar scene. The diner was similar to the same one that he'd first met Percy Jackson in. The memory brought contempt, impatience and anger with it. Now, though, the person sitting opposite of him was a different pawn of War. Dark hair curtained the demigod's face as they bent over the plate, shoveling the greasy food in faster than they could chew. He could only assume that dying was a hungry business. Regardless, this one had been released from the underworld for some time now. Ares had been generous. Patient. As much as he was willing, anyways. "Do you think that just because Hades opened the gates to the Underworld and allowed you to slither out that it means you're free?" he asked, his relaxed appearance seemingly at odds with the anger and disgust that his words portrayed. Shifting forward and placing both arms onto the cool surface of the table, Ares glared at the godling. Even now he could feel the heat behind his dark shades. A side effect whenever he became angry. Which was often. "You belong to me. Remember that. You want your freedom, you do your job. Find Percy Jackson. Count yourself lucky it was me that found you first. I've fed you multiple times now, given you weapons and a purpose. Don't mistake any of that for weakness. If you think that you can't die just as easily a second time around; try again. And there are things worse than death." As he spoke, he reached up and removed the dark sunglasses, revealing his eyes. In them were the flames that presented the kid with a reflection of just what he meant. Visions of gore, torture and death. All situations that Ares knew intimately. "The next time we meet, you'll have news for me." It wasn't a question, but a command. And the only goodbye that the boy was going to get. By the time the child had blinked, Ares was gone. He could threaten the kid, and even follow through with all those threats. But the truth of it was, he and the other gods weren't in the best of places and Ares knew it. After the War had ended less than favorably for the Olympians, they had been cast aside like rag dolls. A fact that wasn't easy for gods with egos the size of theirs to accept. Nor had he. He had wanted to keep fighting. Smash everything that came into his path to a pulp. The others had been more level-headed and had convinced him to wait it out for another day. Which was a nice way of saying that they'd all ran like cowards. That bothered him most of all. He hated being called a coward. Ares lived for War. He didn't run from it. But he had, hadn't he? And now Percy Jackson was hiding from them all. They should have destroyed him during the Winter Solstice. Figures the one time that Ares and Athena agree on something would be the one time that nothing came of it. The little punk thought he was going to play hero. Fight Kronos and be hailed by all. But he lost, just like the rest of them. Except instead of being a man and accepting that, he decided to run. "You can't hide forever, Percy Jackson," Ares growled, knowing that while they may not know where he is as the boy had somehow shielded himself from the eyes of the gods - he could still hear the voice of Ares and any others who chose to speak to him. He sneered as he wondered how many little pep talks Poseidon had given the punk. ___________________________ As the sun began to set, casting the world into shadows once more, Ares found himself thinking of another child of Poseidon. The one nobody had known about. Still didn't, other than him as far as he was aware. Ares had happened upon her by sheer luck. Having his hounds out sniffing for a kid of the Sea didn't bring up many results. None, actually. Except one. Poseidon had kept his little girl a secret from all of Olympus. Ares doubted whether Zeus even knew. Not with that pact made. The war god watched her now, sitting in the loft of the barn. Back and forth she trekked, murmuring to the horses - oblivious to his presence. Or of the monster that had come running towards the scent of a powerful halfblood. The horses picked it up before the woman did and it was only then that she began to falter in her routine. Watching the scene unfold was like something out of a cheesy horror movie. Monsters these days were lazy in their hunting. The corner of his lips lifted in the smallest of smiles as she asked if someone was there. A light chuckle escaped at her reaction to the sight of the Empousa. He was pleasantly surprised at the sudden fight that erupted from the small woman. The thud of the shovel hitting the creature combined with the momentarily stunned look on its twisted features were entertaining enough for him to decide that he liked her more than the Jackson boy already. And so whenever her brave act had little effect and the outcome of this 'battle' became obvious, Ares pushed off from his position of the edge of the loft to land heavily feet first on the ground below. The large knife that he always kept on him was already in hand. Shoving it through the skin, tissue and bone of the creature's back, his aim hit home as the blade slid into the Empousa's heart. It crumbled to dust within seconds, the way most monsters died. If you could call it that, considering they tended to recycle themselves. "Might wanna start carrying around something more effective than a shovel," he advised as he helped the woman to her feet. "Laurel Elswood," he muttered almost to himself as he looked her over. He had known about her for a few weeks now, but this was the closest he'd been. She had the look of her father about her, especially her eyes. A dead give away for anyone who paid enough attention to notice the resemblance. She was more pleasing to the eyes, though. After sliding his knife back into its sheathe, he began contemplating the same thing that he had since he'd first discovered her existence. Maybe he was going about it all the wrong way. Instead of looking for Percy Jackson, wouldn't it just be easier to have the boy come to him? If the past was anything to judge by, he came running whenever he thought a family member was in danger. He hadn't hesitated whenever Hades had held his mother hostage. The woman, Laurel, wasn't likely to be comforted by his appearance. With his standard black jeans, combat boots and the obvious weapon strapped to his thigh - he didn't usually give the 'safe' vibe. Not that he minded. Using the knuckles of his left hand, he brushed away some of the dust left by the Empousa that had fallen onto her shoulder. From what he had witnessed, Laurel probably didn't have the slightest clue as to who or what she really was. This was probably her first fight with a monster. How she had made it this far undetected was a mystery to him; but it happened. Some were just more fortunate for others. Although he didn't consider ignorance to be a gift of any sort. Had she known years ago, killing something like an Empousa probably wouldn't have been difficult. Now she was an adult and would only just begin learning what should have been taught at an early age. "Welcome to the real world, " he didn't speak with cruelty, but nor was there pity. It was just a matter of facts. Things would change for her now, and not just because she had attracted a monster. Mostly it was because she had caught the interest of a god. Now that she'd seen, truly seen - the mist wouldn't affect her like it had before. The same as if a veil had been lifted. "How about a deal? You stay calm, and I'll answer some of the questions you must have fumbling around the pretty little head of yours." He wasn't in the mood for human hysterics; yet another thing that could have been avoided had she been informed of the truth earlier on. As it were, it wouldn't surprise him if she started flailing, screaming and ran from the barn raving about monsters - straight to the mortal police. Too often that was the case whenever someone who wasn't prepared was hit with a cold dose of reality. the role player alias • Tracy age • 20 pronouns • I be female code • Hidden by Tracy other characters • Soon Atlas |
