When she was nothing but a maiden who relished in the light of day and spoke of gentle peace. While the traits that make up the foundation of who she is hasn't changed entirely, she's found herself far more complex than just the young, naive girl that she used to be. Her youth was spent in nearly an illusion, she saw the world through rose-colored glasses and thought nothing terrible could ever happen. The world was bright, sunny, full of spring-time flowers and days spent lounging with free-spirited nymphs. The truth of the world is far darker, and Persephone has had more than enough time to know the intricacies of how complex life can truly be. Serving as Hades' Queen has given her time to see the world for as it is and it has had a lasting impact on who she is. No longer does she view the world as a place of peace and safety, she knows better. She knows what lingers in the dark and she has embraced the fact that she has forever been changed by the cold touch of her husband. While she is no where near as dark nor vindictive as her husband, Persephone certainly is not the soft, naive woman she was so many years ago. Instead, she's found an inner strength that has given her the courage to become the woman she is, garnering respect from the dead by being fair, merciful, but just in every sense of the word. Persephone values courage, faith, and hope. She has not given up the finer things in life, nor has she lost the nearly airy aspect of her personality. The goddess believes in the best of the world, while knowing the worst, and that has given her a unique outlook in life. She lives in the Underworld with her husband, but she brings the light of the world above with her. Persephone tends to bless those that harbor the same traits that she values, and it is known that she'll even go against her husband's wishes to help those that deserve it. Her more gentle attitude is very much a dominant part of her, however, the woman should not be considered tame in any sense of the world. She was wild in the most gentle sense when she was young, but now she is wild in the most visceral sense of the word. Her gentle, giving nature does not survive on longevity, and tends to have an abrupt and rather brutal end. Those that deserve her wrath get it full force, it is something she's learned easily from her husband. She is swift and brutal, unlike some who like torture or drawing out suffering. She does not take joy in making someone suffer, but she is just in every sense of the word, and that also means in punishing someone. Taking the goddess for granted is very much a mistake, as she can be as deadly as her husband, while looking as gentle as a rose. the History father • Zeus, 2,700+, King of Gods mother • Demeter 2,700+ Goddess of Harvest siblings • Ares, Artemis, Apollo, Athena, etc. important people • Hades, husband overall history • Yet another child of Zeus' not born from Hera, Persephone was the daughter of Demeter. Her mother harbored her close, as if she were a delicate flower that would wither away without the elder goddess' constant monitoring. Persephone grew up sheltered, her heart on her sleeve and the sunshine in her eyes. A pair of rose-colored glasses perched upon her pretty little nose left her safe from the dangers of the world around her. She was oblivious to anything else but her springtime, her love for her mother, and the time she spent running through the fields with the nymphs. Freedom, pure freedom, and she enjoyed it greatly. Life changed when she caught the eye of a certain god in the underworld. She was in a field with her nymphs the day that he took her, snatching her from the bright sunny world and stealing her away to the Underworld. He'd been infatuated with her, she'd been terrified of the dark god who had taken her. At first she had wanted nothing more than to go home, life was so different with Hades that it scared the young goddess. But as she spent more time with the man she found herself enthralled with him. Unbeknownst to her, her mother was frantically searching for a way to get her daughter back. Eventually Demeter demanded that Zeus interfere, and he did. Persephone was free to go with Demeter to the world above, but before she went Hades offered her pomegranate seeds. Another trick, surely, though Persephone truly ate the seeds willingly. It bound her to the Underworld and caused her to spend half her time with Hades, and the other half with her mother. Persephone grew to love Hades, and learned to become a part of the Underworld, which left the world above in a cold, loveless winter. But when she returned to the earth, she brought spring with her and the warmth of the sun and the love of her mother. While Hades made a pact with his brothers not to father any young, Persephone knew that Hades was not a faithful husband. It infuriated and hurt her that the god would turn his back upon her, but she never took the route that Hera did. Instead, she found herself only blaming the man, not the child. As for her, she remains faithful, to this day, and has no demi-god children of her own. Only the children that her husband provided her with. In the recent years, Persephone has been known to aide the demi-gods in their quests, especially that of Percy Jackson. Unfortunately, her husband has not found himself in the same position. the Sample There was peace here, within this field made of pretty wild-flowers. A peace that Persephone wished could extend further than this small patch of land. War had been a constant when it came to the Gods. If it wasn't the gods against the gods, it was humans against humans controlled by gods, or humans against gods, or gods against humans. It was a never ending cycle of blood and death and Persephone had hoped and prayed that this war would be the last. She had hoped that Percy had enough strength to perserver and defeat Kronos and the rest of the Titans. However, he had not, which meant that the gods and goddess' had been cast from power. To make matters worse, her own husband had conspired with Kronos to throw his brother's from power. The gates of the Underworld and Heaven had been opened, all the souls that had been placed were now roaming free in the world. It wasn't acceptable and Persephone could not understand how Hades' hate for his brothers had trumped the duty that he had been given. When she'd learned that he had a part in it, along with collecting the Demon's that had escaped into his own little army, Persephone decided that she would not stand idly by while her husband made this mistake. So she had decided to collect the Daimons that had escaped. She was not out to use them basely and then throw them away after they've been used, much like her other family members tended to do. Instead, Persephone intended on giving them a second chance if they chose to fight for her and her own cause. She was intent on giving them a choice, they could stay here with her and fight for what was just, or they could be dragged back to the underworld by her and find themselves locked away forever. She supposed the choices weren't exactly great, but she would not force one to fight for something they didn't believe in. However, they were dead. They belonged in the Underworld and Persephone was intent on putting them back there. Unless they proved that they deserved another chance at life, they already were those with pure hearts, she doubted that many would turn down the offer to put back the balance. Some might be content with being dead, and that was fine as well, but Persephone would not allow herself to stand idly by while her husband destroyed everything that he'd built for centuries. Everything that they stood for. The Underworld was not just a place for the damned to find themselves, it was the final resting place for all. And that meant those that had served faithfully their entire life. It was not right that Hades had taken that from them, putting them back into the world when they deserved to stay in Elysium for the rest of eternity. the role player alias • tawny age • 22 pronouns • she/her code • the one in the rules other characters • Laurel Elswood |
